While raising her children, Mickie found her passion in the restaurant business starting as a waitress and progressing to cafeteria manager at Merritt Island High. She eventually started her own restaurant called "Mickie's Deli" in Port Canaveral. Mickie then sold her business which led to her new passion in serving Veterans and Seniors. through the American Legion, Division of the Blind, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Mickie is known in the community for her work with the VFW and other Veterans organizations. She has been a longtime member and served as both President and 2nd Vice President. Mickie also works with Space Coast Honor Flight to fly our local Veterans to DC where they are able to see the memorials. She is also actively involved in an organization called "Lost in America" that helps provide funerals with dignity for Veterans who have no next of kin.
While working on the "No More Gas Stations Committee" here in the city, she discovered the history of the Ais Native Settlers and became involved in local archeological digs. Through this work, she has developed a deeper understanding on the importance of preserving our land and protecting our resources. She is presently the secretary treasurer of the Ais Village Trail non-profit public archeology group.
A parishioner of Our Savior's Catholic Church, Mickie is always reaching out to her community to help where she can. A believer in the importance of giving back, she has volunteered for the Guardian Ad Litem program, helped with Habitat for Humanity, packed back to school packets for children of Cape View Elementary and supports our local Space Coast Little League.
